Hey fans are you getting ready for the new year? With 2010 coming to a close and 2011 quickly approaching, I thought I’d check in with Switchfoot’s management to see how Hello Hurricane had performed sales-wise this year.
And… so far Hello Hurricane has sold 230,829 albums total. That’s a little less than half way to Gold Certification (500,000 units sold) and for a band that has been out of the spotlight for several years (Yeah I’m still hearing “Switchfoot? They’re still around?”) I think it’s a solid number… though I hope it continues to grow throughout 2011!
Mark your calendars! Bro-am week is shaping up, and with the Switchfoot Bro-Am taking place on June 18th, the guys will play the night before (the 17th) at the San Diego County Fair. (Auction night will probably be the 16th, but we’ll keep you posted) SignOnSanDiego reports:
Grammy Award-winner Lenny Kravitz and newly Grammy Award-nominated San Diego band Switchfoot are the first acts confirmed to perform at the San Diego County Fair’s 2011 Toyota Summer Concert Series on the Heineken Grandstand Stage.
Kravitz will perform June 14, while Switchfoot will perform June 17 at the fair, which will run June 10 through July 4 and will have an automotive theme. (The fair will be closed on three consecutive Mondays — June 13, 20 and 27.)
Tickets for both concerts are set to go on sale early next year, according to a representative for the fair. In the meanwhile, the fairs’s Web site — sdfair.com — is already offering what it bills as “the best pass ever,” a $22 season per-person pass, valid for for 22 days of unlimited admissions. Daily adult admission for the 2011 will cost $13 for adults, $7 for seniors and kids 6-to-12. Children five and under will be admitted free.
Our friends at We’re Awakening found a great interview with Switchfoot from the Buzz Bakesale – just click right HERE to give it a listen! It’s a good interview, Jon, Drew and Chad talk about the festival (“clASsy”), touring (South America), recording Hello Hurricane, Vice Verses (“You write new ones and sometimes the old ones slip away…”), a Switchfoot box set sponsored by FedEx (This needs to happen!) and other randomness. Check it out!
Other sites are starting to post their “Year In Review” specials and the NC Times list had a nice Switchfoot mention:
The title of Biggest North County-Bred Rock Band probably still belongs to Switchfoot. Members of the Encinitas band also might bring home trophies from L.A. in early 2011. Switchfoot’s album “Hello Hurricane” is nominated in the Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album category.

One of our site visitors, Tim May, linked us to his girlfriend’s stellar set of Switchfoot photos from the Shark City show – and these are GOOD.
