LOVE IN A JAR (ORIGINALLY A COLLAGE PROJECT) :: From Anna
Official Twitter Page: LOBH Love in a Jar
UPDATE! (Take 2)
Hello everyone! Right now we already have about 50 entries! And so that means we will definitely be pushing through with the project.
Great job, everyone!
Because of this overwhelming amount in such short notice, I’ve decided we can turn the project into “LOBH love in a jar” instead of a collage…for the following reasons:
1) I really wanted to focus on your messages and this is still the goal with the “jar” format.
2) 50 entries with words and pictures is a lot! And making them fit nicely on a collage would prove to be very difficult for me (as I am not so artistically gifted in layouts etc.)
3) The jar would enable your message to stand out by itself as each entry will be on a different piece of paper.
4) If I were to do a collage, it would need to be very big and unfortunately I don’t think I have enough resources to buy all the materials I’ll need. The “jar format” will only require the jar, fancy papers, and some fun thingamajigs like ribbons.
(Also, I’m getting your entries printed out nicely in a professional printing place. hahah)
5) The jar would allow me to accept more entries until Friday (a day before the concert) since I will only need to print them out and put them in the jar
6) I figured a relatively small jar would be less hassle for the guys to keep than an awkward ginormous board of a collage.
I understand some would prefer the collage, and I’m terribly sorry I won’t do that anymore. ![]()
Please let me know if you have any suggestion on how to improve the project. (:
Also, if anyone is handy with photoshop, get your work featured on the cover/label of the jar! Please inform me ASAP if you are interested!

From Anna on the LOBH Boards!: (Take 1)
Hey everyone! Because of YOUR help, I get to meet Switchfoot 5 DAYS from now. And I wanted to thank you by letting you guys participate in a brand spanking new LOBH project! I know I will already be meeting them VERY VERY soon, which means you if you want to participate YOU MUST SUBMIT YOUR ENTRIES ASAP! But don’t worry! The project is very simple! and all I need from each one of you is a SHORT and SWEET message to the guys. (:The idea is we’ll choose any quote from the band and say how much that’s changed our lives. For example, this certain line from a song helped encourage me when I was feeling really down about myself. Or even something that Chad just uttered in an interview that inspired you to do better at your art or school or skill or whatever. Or something Tim said that helped strengthen your faith. Short and simple things like that. You can elaborate too but not TOO long that it becomes a letter. It’s just a short note type of thing.
Then you can include a small picture of you with the band, or just you if you don’t have one with them just so the band can see the faces of the people whose lives they’re changing. ![]()
I was thinking I’d make it into a big collage thing. (And I was hoping the more artistic folks could help me with the layout. Please express your interest if you wanna help for the background graphics, etc. If not, I’ll probably just keep it on the plainer side and focus on the messages. o:)
FOR EXAMPLE:
| All of my days are spent within this skin Within this cage that I’m in Nowhere feels safe to me, nowhere feels home Even in crowds I’m alone Holding on… What are you waiting for?… These lines made me realize how lost I was, just flowing through life and not doing anything about it. I heard this song when I was going through a tough time, being miserable in college, particularly because of the major I was taking. The lines spoke to me so much that it encouraged me to take a big step of shifting out of my major into another that made me happier. This song changed my life’s course. – Anna (Manila, Philippines) |
That’s it! Like pretend you were writing on Twitter or Tumblr or updating your FB status – just to let the world know how Switchfoot changed your life!
HERE’S THE KICKER: I’ve decided it won’t be much of a collage if not many people are able to send in their submissions in time. I don’t want to have a few people send in their messages and then end up with me having to cancel the project since very few submitted. SO I’LL ONLY PUSH THROUGH WITH THE PROJECT IF I CAN GET 30 RESPONSES BY WEDNESDAY.
I know it’s very soon but you can already send me your submission after you read this message! (and besides, you guys helped me reach A THOUSAND likes to my video in less than 5 days!
)
SO to summarize. Here’s what I need from you:
1) quote from a song/band member/s
2) how that particular quote has touched your life (HOPEFULLY IN NO MORE THAN 100 WORDS. I hate to impose but since it’s gonna be a collage we don’t want to hog the space up for ourselves, do we? I also want it to be an easy read for the guys! And also to distinguish it from the earlier project with the letters. (: )
3) your name and location!
4) your best picture ![]()
Remember: the key is to be SHORT and SWEET! Make it the most powerful < 100 word paragraph you can. SO are you guys up for it? (:

Here are some photos Anna took of the final product of the project before she Met and Greeted the guys.

Here’s a sneak peek at what your entry will look like! The actual size is gonna be bigger than that. Don’t worry.

It’s all I could do to keep the jar from bursting. o: Great job, everyone!

in the process of filling up the jar.. I had to line up the entries or else they won’t fit! O:

This is me tired and looking silly after cutting all the entries. We reached more than a hundred! Thanks everyone!
The Love In A Jar project was delivered safely and successfully by Anna during M&G, at Switchfoot’s Manila, Phillipines show, on April 30th, 2011.
The guys appreciated it very much, and Jon even said, “this is one of the most touching things we’ve ever gotten for the band. It’s incredible”, upon receiving.
Tim’s later response to a fan via twitter, “we love it! It has a place of honor at our studio! -t”.
And Drew’s reply to Anna via twitter, “Yes! Thank you guys so much! That was awesome. We will remember that for a long time. Much love, drew”.

Below is from Anna’s personal blog that she shared with us on how the event went:
Hello everyone! I’m extremely happy to share that the “LOBH Love in a Jar” has been delivered to the guys and they absolutely LOVED it.
Although there were some complications with the Meet and Greet (it got waaay pushed back until the guys only had little time left for us BEFORE the show), I tried my best to get enough feedback for you guys about the project. (:
I got videos!! The Meet and Greet was practically just turned into an autograph session because of time constraints. We weren’t even allowed to take pictures with them! At least that’s what the event organizers and security told us. But the band being the band, they never said no. They were more than happy to send their thanks to us through video!
Tim and Drew:
Jon and Romey:
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get a video of Chad because he was at the end of the table right next to the security guy who was practically tapping my arm the whole time I was trying to explain to Chad what the jar’s all about.
The security guy told me I can’t take a video anymore because the line had to keep moving.
I felt really bad that I wasn’t able to ask him for a video but rest assured, he was very thankful and was very sweet about it.
Here are some pictures that I snagged from some of the people I was with in the M&G. Sorry that most of them are blurry. :/ But you get the idea!

Tim’s very happy about it ![]()

and so is Drew!

Jon seemingly reaching for the jar at the end of the M&G o:
The concert was absolutely amazing and even with the complications, meeting the guys was just an unforgettable experience. My take on the whole concert and M&G will follow once I get myself together. Hahah.
So what do you guys think? LOBH LOVE IN A JAR was a definite success, no?
